I rejoiced with those who said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the LORD.”
— Psalm 122:1

Welcome to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church!

We’re thrilled that you took the time to check us out online and learn a little more about us!

We’d like to give you a feel for what our church is like and why we love being here. We hope to answer some of the questions you may have about our Sunday divine services. If you choose to visit us for a Sunday service, we’ll make every effort to make you feel comfortable and at home in our midst as our valued guest.

After checking us out, if you still have questions, please feel free to contact us.  We’d love to hear from you.

Thanks again for dropping by!

Where are we located?

We’re located at 102 Redeemer Way in Yorktown, Virginia. As you drive down Victory Blvd. (171) between Tabb and Poquoson, you would turn onto Heavens Way and make an immediate left turn onto Redeemer Way. You can see our facility from Victory Blvd. (171).

When is worship?

Our divine service is held every Sunday at 10:15am. Children’s Sunday School and Adult Bible Class begin at 9:00am.

What can I expect when I visit?

You will hear from God’s Word that the problems and difficulties we have in life are the result of sin, but that God sent his Son Jesus to save us from our sins. When Jesus died on the cross he reconciled us to God. When he rose from the dead he guaranteed our forgiveness and eternal life. Our salvation was accomplished 2,000 years ago with the work of Jesus. When you visit, our prayer is that the Holy Spirit will comfort your heart and give you the inner peace that only Christ can give.

How should I dress for worship?

Come as you are. We’re all unique and have many different tastes—that’s how God made us! Dress the way you feel comfortable. You will still hear God’s word no matter how you’re dressed.

What is a divine service like?

Our divine services are Christ-centered. Jesus Christ's life, death, and resurrection are the foundation of our faith and the focus of our worship.  God's Word and the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion are the means, or tools, God uses to give us his forgiveness and blessing. We follow a liturgical divine service, the historic pattern for worship that Christians have used for centuries. We use an organ or a piano to accompany our singing. Our pastor wears a clerical robe with a stole, the color of which represents the season of the church year.

Can I come to communion?

At Our Redeemer we practice “member communion” or “close communion.” We want people to know exactly what they’re receiving when they come to the Lord’s Supper. Communion is also an expression of unity of belief in all the teachings of the Bible. So we ask that only Our Redeemer members—or members of our wider fellowship (WELS, ELS)—come to communion. We invite our guests once they’ve taken our Bible Information Class and have confessed their agreement with what we teach with church membership. This class teaches and reviews all the teachings of God’s Word. Be sure to let the pastor know if you’d like to take the class.
